What is it about atheism that makes its followers so hostile to anything Christian? Does it threaten their belief system?

I refer of course to Damian Corbett's letter, October 18, attacking Tony Waring's balanced and totally inoffensive letter of the previous week.

And what is it about atheism that makes its followers trot out the same old fairy stories about the Bible too? If Mr Corbett did his research he would soon see that far from being full of the 'myth' that he claims, much of the Bible is simply an accurate account of historical events, some good and some bad.

And elsewhere, far from condoning crimes 'as despicable as rape and the murder of young children', as Mr Corbett claims, Christianity clearly abhors such things. That's why Christians are opposed to the killing of babies in their mothers' wombs, something that Mr Corbett seems to support under the guise of women's rights. What about the baby's rights?

Does Mr Corbett ever read the Bible, in context and with an open mind? If he did, he might find the evidence he needs to disprove his 'imaginary friend in the sky' claim too.

That evidence for God's existence and the truth of Jesus's life and claims are easily revealed to anyone who is genuine about wanting to know the truth. And it doesn't need any prior belief system or a PhD in theology or anything like that to do so: just a genuine honesty about wanting the truth. Important too, as it affects where one spends eternity: with God or away from Him. It's really only pride that separates the two groups.
