Some national and other South Devon newspapers were guilty of failing to check their facts when they published online a story about a cat using a zebra crossing in Dartmouth on Wednesday afternoon.

Anyone who knows Dartmouth would know at once that a video published on YouTube by a Justin Scrutton was not filmed by a dashcam in Devon - but in Kent and clearly labelled as such by Mr Scrutton.

The Fulwich Hotel, shown at the start of the clip, is in St Vincent’s Road, Dartford.Perhaps not surprising that the national newspapers wouldn't know the difference between Dartmouth and Dartford, but astonishing other local news gatherers didn't either. Oops!
