The A38 remains partially closed between Ivybridge and Lee Mill this morning due to emergency repairs.

Wales & West Utilities closed one lane on both the eastbound and westbound sides at about 7pm last night to fix a gas leak beneath the road.

Traffic England is reporting 40-minute delays on both sides between the A3121 and the A374 junctions.

It's not clear when the road will reopen, but delays are expected throughout rush hour.

The Highways Agency has advised drivers to consider an alternative route.

Loren Peberdy, Wales & West operational manager for Ivybridge, said: “This is a complicated job and we do not yet know how long our work will take.

“We appreciate that working on roads such as these is not ideal, but it is important that we fix this leak now in order to continue to provide a safe and reliable supply of gas to homes and businesses in the area."

Anyone who smells gas or thinks they have a gas leak should call 0800 111 999.
