Rosemary Shiffner, spokesman, Friends of St Peter’s Church, Stoke Fleming, writes:
I was concerned to read the headline ‘Wind blows in the direction of new church windows’, Chronicle, October 9, about Stoke Fleming’s church and wanted to hasten to reassure any who may have wondered what was being planned for the lovely 19th-century windows.
It is not the windows that need attention, but some of their iron supporting bars, which are corroding and damaging the stone window surrounds.
The Tower Project – the renovation of the bell frame, the tower and the electrification of the clock-winding gear – is currently the focus of attention, but once this is under way, the Friends of St Peter’s may well be contributing to the preservation of the window frames once the cost is known.
