Joseph Alexander, of, Dartmouth, writes:
Having recently attended two wonderful concerts I feel it only right that a larger 'audience' be made aware of two of Dartmouth's 'treasures'.
I refer to the Britannia Choral Society and Dartmouth Orchestral Society.
Both are under new musical directors – Robin Stubbs and Tony Hindley – who have brought their own enthusiasms to Dartmouth music-making, but we should not forget those whose vision it was to found these two splendid societies. Thanks to them, their successors and the present custodians – Karen Bryant Mole and Jessica Heywood – Dartmouth has been treated to the delights of Britten, Handel, Copeland, Mozart, Bruch, Bach and Vaughan Williams, not forgetting two splendid arrangements by Dartmouth's own Phil Watson, right here on our doorstep.
Furthermore, the fact that singers and instrumentalists are prepared to travel from some distance to perform with our locally based musicians is a further tribute to all concerned.
Thank you so much to both 'teams' and I for one look forward to the day, perhaps in future Dart Music Festival, when they join forces for a choral concert with orchestral accompaniment.
