JOHNNY CHICK of The Old Market, Dartmouth, writes:
The historic Dartmouth Guildhall could be sold.
Surely the Guildhall is worth keeping. It is the only venue in the town that can house well over a hundred people with a stage, bar, kitchens and suchlike.
I have attended many a do there and it is simply brilliant. Sell it, why? I have never heard such a load of old poppycock!
When public flogging is reintroduced to deal with the scum that have been awarded 100 lashes for beating up an old Dartmothian then where else are we going to watch it under cover from the rain.
There are endless possibilities to fill the place it just seems to me that not one person wants to do the job... a bit like the Old Market I suppose.
It could cost £100,000 to do it up. What a bargain, we only got a set of disgusting stinking lavatories for that sort of money which cost £15,000 a year to run – maybe a little more as the phantom loo roll nicker is yet to be caught.
We would eject town councillors from the Guildhall and re-house them in a 20ft skip or waste bin at a less convenient site, Mill Creek sewer farm comes to mind.
I don't think it is necesary to have our beloved rulers of the town actually in our faces.
The museum could be relocated inside the Guildhall along with the TIC along with anything else of that flavour. The rent returns could pay or contribute to the operating costs.
People would pay good money to see the inside the the Mayors Chambers and an extra quid to find out what went on there, Scullduggery at its best... fantastic.
All the line dancers that arrive from wherever line dancers come from could go in there and dance all day and all night instead of ruining our lovely gardens.
Great place for a charity fete on a wet day, a boxing ring could be put up for all of those 'Thirsties' who over consume on the Sasperella and decide that a good punchup is the only sobering way forward... the place would be packed.
So come on you councillors, go out and buy some ideas from intelligent folk and get the Guildhall up and running, just like the Old Market.
We know you can do it!
