THREE Dartmouth Guides enjoyed the flight of a lifetime when they received a top award – on the London Eye.

Katie Stevens, Vicky Tsang and Tia Deville had reached the top of the giant Ferris wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames when they were presented with their Baden Powell certificate and badge by District Commissioner Sharon Jones.

The special moment was made even more memorable as the wind started to blow hard and the pod they were riding in started to sway just as the presentation took place.

All three 14-year-olds who are members of the 1st Dartmouth Guides had completed the 10 challenges required to gain the highest challenge in Guiding.

These included badges about the world, first aid, cooking and outdoor pursuits, together with sleeping in a bivvy built by themselves and enjoying an evening at the cinema.

They also took part in an unknown weekend challenge that included team work and self reliance, which involved doing their own fund raising to pay for this event.

Sharon Jones said that the three girls had worked hard and deserved to receive this very special challenge badge.

They had been keen and loyal members taking part in the unit programme over the last four years,’ she said.

Their trip to London also included a visit to Covent Garden and Madam Tussauds.
