Brenna Dickinson, of Kings Quay, Clarence Street, Dartmouth, writes:

Let's get a few things straight, there are three cafes in Dartmouth's Market Square.

There's the Market Cafe, run by Rob and Colette, which caters to visitors, locals and pensioners. The local pensioners stood by Rob during the refurbishment debacle earlier this year.

Next there is the renowned Dart to Mouth Deli, which is a popular gourmet-style eatery.

Then we have the controversial so-called community cafe which is not, I repeat not, a cafe at all – it is a community centre.

Dartmouth Caring runs a lunch club one day a week there, and it is the over-60s' restroom during weekday mornings, when only tea and coffees are served.

Finally, Dartmouth Caring will lose what little residue of local goodwill it has left if it tries to take over the running of the community centre.

People around town have become disillusioned about Dartmouth Caring, and it is frequently referred to as a business rather than a charity, because its charges are high and beyond the pockets of many local pensioners.
