The sun shone on Kingswear Family Fun Day at Waterhead Creek on Saturday, September 2nd, as it raised £2,734.
The funds raised were for charity, the Village Hall and local rowing club. Ann See, Treasurer of the event said: “The event is held to get the people of the village together to have fun and in the process raise funds for very deserving charities and local village organizations.
“The weather for the event was very kind, as the very next day it poured down all day. Everyone had a great day to enjoy all the many exhibits, games, competitions, scrumptious foods and refreshments.
“The list of activities included, an array of locally-owned classic cars, a very popular dog show, a huge raffle and a wind-assisted, very fast duck race. There was a cake baking competition, a Bollywood dancing demonstration which had general participation, a “taste of rowing”, tug o’ war, skittles and an eggathon for both children and grown up’s. The day wound up with a performance of shanty songs by Missin Tackle of Brixham.
“I wish to thank everyone who supported us and for our gallant team of workers who worked so hard to make this happen.”
The duck race alone, raised £1,095 for Rowcroft Hospice with Dartmouth Steam Railway and Riverboat Company sponsoring the prize money. Support from individual donations, corporate support in the form of sponsorship, food and drink supplies, together with all the monies spent by the attendees, meant the event generated total proceeds for charities and local organizations of £1,639. These funds are to be divided between Kingswear Village Hall Fund, Shelter Box and Kingswear Rowing Club. The total raised was £2,734.
