IT was the end of an era for the Regatta Swimming Gala at the outdoor pool on Saturday.

Organisers Lesley Hodge and her daughter Lynne Maw have been involved for the past 28 years – Lynne remembers swimming in the competition held in the Boatfloat as a child.

‘We’ve battled wind and rain and sometimes, if we were lucky, the sun shone on us,’ said Lesley.

‘We have had families who have loyally competed in the gala, with children starting at five year old, who are now competing as adults.

‘We would like to thank everyone who has supported the event over the years.’

Around 60 people – children and adults – took part in the various 23 classes at this year’s gala, one of the final events before the outdoor pool closes at the end of the season.
