Peter Goldstraw, of Ridge Hill, Dartmouth, writes: Is there no place for wildlife in Dartmouth? A small corner of the Ridge Hill Community Orchard, overgrown, a tangle of brambles and nettles. Bypassed by dog walkers. Considered an eyesore by some. Many others saw a wildlife sanctuary supporting innumerable bees, butterflies and other insects. Birds and small mammals bred there, fed there and were fed upon by tawny owl, sparrowhawk and buzzard. In one short afternoon it was grubbed out and made smooth by mechanical digger. No doubt to be replaced by the green desert that some see as beauty. No notification. No consultation. No expense spared.
