Did anyone notice in this week’s Delving into the Past page in the Chronicle that

one of the Modbury photos ­depicted a Millbay van.

That was Millbay Laundry of Plymouth.

I worked for the laundry briefly as a lad, but didn’t do the Modbury run.

Today those vans would be banned because coming down a hill they had doors that slid back. On a hot summer’s day they would be open, but if you by chance had your hand in the opening that door could slide shut fast. Those doors were a menace.
