CJ Moore of Swannaton Road, Dartmouth, writes:
The poor response to the parking questionnaire was inevitable as, though reported otherwise, the forms did not arrive at 'every household' in Dartmouth. When it became evident that my household was not going to receive one I collected it from the Guildhall. Many people I know were also missed out and I hope they did the same as me.
With regard to pay and display meters funding an improvement to the park and ride operation I fear that those funds would gradually be siphoned into some other project as is often the case.
There will always be a surge of traffic in the summer and this is to be expected. Most visitors come in cars and making people pay for on-street parking will not reduce the volume. The visitor season is relatively short and we must put up with it if the town wants this to continue.
During the rest of the year through the winter the parking restrictions should be maintained as for years now the relaxation of them has resulted in abuse of the system with cars left for weeks in the same spot without moving.
Residents who are obliged to park on-street if they have no other means should have a permit to do so. I am sure if this was done many more shoppers would use the town secure in the knowledge that they could find a parking space.
