Police are appealing for information following a serious assault in the centre of Dartmouth in which a 43-year-old man was beaten unconscious.
The attack happened in Smith Street some time between 11.45pm on Saturday and 12.15am the next morning.
Police believe that the alleged victim was approached by another man in the street in what has been described as an unprovoked attack.
A police spokesman said: 'He was punched in the face before passing out and sustained facial injuries.'
'A passer-by who may have seen the attack, assisted him.'
Police say the alleged attacker was wearing a dark grey/blue top and jeans.
Police, who say they are appealing for witnesses to the incident, arrested a 27-year-old Dartmouth man on suspicion of assault who has since been released on police bail until March 12.
Anyone who can help can call police on 101 quoting crime reference JH/14/19, or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Meanwhile, police have arrested three Dartmouth teenagers in connection with a New Year's Eve attack which left two visitors to the town in hospital with broken cheekbones.
Police have been studying CCTV footage from the town and appealing for information since the two victims from London were allegedly attacked at 1.30am on New Year's Eve near the junction of Victoria Road and Market Street.
A police spokesman said the teenagers – two aged 18 and one aged 17 years – were arrested at their homes and interviewed by officers on Saturday.
Police have also thanked members of the public who came forward with information which led to the arrests.
The spokesman added: 'All three males have been interviewed and released on police bail for further investigation.
'Thank you to all those that rang in and gave information in regards to the incident.
'We will update you with any outcomes as and when they happen.'
