Waves battered Kingswear Castle as the sea flexed it mighty muscles this week.

This picture was taken in the wake of the worst of the weekend storms which struck Devon – felling trees and leaving a legacy of flooding across the county.

It was snapped at around 11.30am on Monday as waves smashed against the rocky base of the old castle at the mouth of the River Dart, sending spray high up the walls.

The photograph was taken by Dartmouth Canvas Factory owner Joe Murtagh from a vantage point on Sugary Green.

Keen photographer Joe braved the still blustery weather conditions to get the shot from the exposed beauty spot. By the time he took the photo, the weather was actually calming down from Sunday night's storm.
