Stoke Fleming sizzled on August Bank Holiday Monday as the village held their 141st Annual Show which was open to everyone to enter.
The weather was hot, hot, hot as indeed was the competition with 860 exhibits over 186 different classes, especially the Men Only baking which attracted 25 entries. There were, as always, some trophies returning to their previous winners but also some new names to be added to the silverware next year.
Two winners of particular note were: Mrs E Baigrie who won the RHS Medal for the most prize money in three categories and Joshua Abraham who won the RHS Certificate for the best childrens’ exhibit, Stokefleming Sauras’.
A spokesman for the fete said: “The afternoon started with the lunch time BBQ and sandwiches as well as a chance to listen to The James Harris Jazz Band, followed by storytelling, the official opening of the show by Reverend Alison Shaw and continued with a performance from South Hams Primary Schools Ukulele Band. Other static attractions included visits from Ash Rescue Centre, Torbay Owls, Thorn Farm Alpacas, a demonstration from Dartmouth U3A Archery Club and there was chance to browse the variety of stalls.
“As if this were not enough what show would be complete without a grand raffle. The traditional programme of sports for children and adults also took place. During all this activity, supplies from the bar, teas and ice-creams kept everyone sustained. The Committee would like to thank everyone involved in making this day such a success and look forward to seeing you all on August 27th, 2018 for the 142nd Show.”
