I understand that in the past Dartmouth has won several best-presented annual town awards.
Unfortunately, it does not seem likely that this will be repeated in the near future unless considerable improvements are made in several areas.
It does, however, appear that South Hams is apparently stretched in terms of finance, although ultimately many of the things that would make Dartmouth much more attractive are the responsibility of South Hams and are not getting the attention they deserve.
In particular, at the junctions between virtually all the local authority-maintained paths, roads, steps etc and adjoining walls, kerbs and all other similar areas there are constantly masses of weeds growing, which is very unsightly.
As a retired person, I would be more than happy to volunteer to spray all the weeds in my road – and I do have a large-capacity sprayer – if South Hams would let me have a suitable weed killer that would get over any possible health and safety issues.
I also believe that many others in my position would be happy to help in this respect and that this sort of volunteer activity would be very helpful in improving significantly the general appearance of the town.
