MRS G SMITH, of Clarence Street, Dartmouth, writes:
I am writing concerning the apartments Sails on Dartmouth’s North Embankment.
I have lived in Clarence House for 19 years, a maisonette of which I am owner occupier. Before this construction was built, I had a beautiful view of the harbour across to Kingswear and of Coronation Park from my property.
Now all I have is the ugly side view of Sails. Granted, the front of the building is better looking but I cannot see it, so it does not concern me.
Regarding suggestion from Ray Bridges, News of the Weird, August 21, if and when a mural is painted on the building, I suggest that the residents who live in close proximity have a say on the content, as we have to look at it every day.
The residents here have had to put up with building works for what seems to me to be a very long time, with vans, trucks and lorries obstructing our private parking spaces.
We were assured that Sails would only be two storeys plus a penthouse. Now there is the addition of a roof terrace, so is much higher.
How this building got planning permission, I would like to know, when the Ship In Dock’s planning application was rejected on the grounds as not being in keeping with the surroundings.
As for those residents opposed to the Ship In Dock’s plans, these people bought their properties knowing they were near a pub, so what do they do when the music festival and regatta are on? Do they go away or hibernate?
