The A38 will remain partially closed between Ivybridge and Lee Mill throughout rush hour as emergency gas works continue.

Wales & West Utilities shut one lane on both sides of the carriageway at about 7pm on Monday, July 22, to fix a leak beneath the road.

This led to delays of up to 40 minutes in both directions between the A3121 and the A374 junctions on Tuesday morning.

Wales & West say disruption is likely to continue throughout the evening as work continues into the night.

A spokesperson for the company said: "This is a complex job and we do not yet know how long our work will take.

"Our engineers worked through the night and will continue to work into this evening to repair the leak as safely and as quickly as possible.

"In agreement with Highways England and to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe while we work, we have closed a lane on both the eastbound and westbound lanes in the Lee Mill area.

“As this essential work is likely to cause some disruption, we would advise road users to plan ahead and use alternate routes if possible.

“We appreciate that working on roads like this one is not ideal, but it is important that we fix this leak now, so we continue to provide a safe and reliable supply of gas to local homes and businesses."
