The Rotary Young Chef competition is frying up a treat this year with six local chefs mentoring Dartmouth Academy students.

Preparations are underway with the Rotary club bringing together the judges, the six chefs and six students on Thursday, October 18 on the eve of the Dartmouth Food Festival.

The judging panel includes town mayor, Cllr Rob Lyon, David Jones and Dartmouth Food Festival chair, Shelia Shribman CBE.

Jenny Chanter, food teacher at Dartmouth Academy has been organising and helping the students in preparation.

Meeting at 2.15pm in Royal Avenue Gardens, the students and chefs will then return to their venues to prepare a two course meal for two within a £10 budget.

The students and chefs will return to the Dartmouth Food Festival Chefs' demonstration marquee in Royal Avenue Gardens at 4.45pm and the judging will take place at 5pm.

Dartmouth Rotary Club president, Peter Goldstraw will present certificates to the students and the silver cup to the winner.

The students and chefs from local businesses taking part include: student Callum Tracey with Elly Wentworth from The Angel; student Anya Wadman with Ankur Biswas from the Royal Castle Hotel; student Rosey Elliott with Peter Alcroft from the Dart Marina; student Lily Deville with Gary Mail from Dartmouth Yacht Club, student Amy Vennelle with Peter Shaw from Taylors Restaurant and student Kieron Gooding with Bryony Gooding from the Market House Inn.
