Cllr Robin Griffin, of Kingsbridge Town Council, writes: The notes from Vic's cornet floated like silver tears of sorrow over the large, sombre gathering honouring our town's dead, some from a century ago. As one tasked to lay a wreath from the police cadets, I was privileged to watch our remembrance pageant unfold faultlessly in front of me. Of course, those adults at the heart of town life discharged their roles on time and in place. Remarkably, a large number of children and youth associations immaculately presented joined the solemnity with precision. John Peacock and his team from The Mill/Royal British Legion set out to organise an impeccable tribute to our dead boys with parade marshal Mark Lamble, and that is how it unfolded. I congratulate both men and their teams as they incorporated the drill style and timing that was the hallmark of our dead heroes. The part played by The Mill/Legion was far from over after we left the refurbished memorial. Amy and her team, mindful that an army marches on its stomach, had laid on a wonderful buffet – a gift to folk who stood in mourning in the event. Mayor Wayne Grills delivered a well done to all who mourned and respected our dead lads, and of course to The Mill/Legion, which was fittingly at the heart of this vital event. I add many congratulations to the youngsters, who clearly represent a fine future for our town.
