John Tremlett, of Southford Road, Dartmouth, writes:
Let’s hope authorities do not allow any air displays at 2016’s Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta. Over the past few years air displays have taken over the event, with traditional events being scheduled around them instead of being given priority.
It’s about time the committee got back to what the regatta means to Dartmouth people, who have supported the event for many years, and stopped worrying about drawing in more and more daily visitors, who mainly only come for the ‘free show’. Regatta does not stand for ‘air show’.
I have been involved with the regatta for more than 50 years in one way and another, with my father being chairman back in the ’60s, myself being chairman in the ’80s and being involved in 2015 with the fête and road races, and I and I am sure many others have been becoming more and more disillusioned year after year.
