Dartmouth Town Council is looking at finding £8,000 to replace its Christmas lights – and save on its electricity bills.

The town councillors want to buy strings of energy saving LED lights which can go up around the Boatfloat and the Old Market – as well as decorate the traditional Christmas tree which is sited in Royal Avenue Gardens each year.

The town council's corporate property committee chairman Robin Springett said the existing council-owned lights were 'very old fashioned' and 'desperately need updating'.

The committee is now asking the council finance committee to come up with the cash.

At the moment the council spends around £1,500 a year on its Christmas lights.
