This 18th century apartment built above the former tidal mill pool near the River Dart could be yours to live in for £395k.

The apartment sits on Foss Street, which follows the line of a medieval dyke which dammed a tidal creek and included a tidal mill.

The tidal creek, known as the Mill Pond, was drained and a new Market House was built on the site in 1828-9 due to the need for more manufacturing capabilities after two decades of war with France affected trade.

Although the mill pool was filled in in the 1820s, the historical homes along the street remain, including this apartment which has been Grade II listed for its period features.

Of mixed construction with stone rubble and a plastered timber-framed front, the building has a slate roof and moulded timber eaves.

Its other period features include a parallel gable-ended roof with a front gabled dormer.

Close to the town centre, the apartment is made up of an open plan living space incorporating a sitting area, a dining area and a kitchen with breakfast bar, as well as three double bedrooms, two with en-suites, and one family bathroom.

The property is being marketed for £395k by estate agents Marchand Petit.

Kate Thorogood of Marchand Petit’s Dartmouth office said: “The Foss Street property is right at the heart of town – it couldn’t be more central to all Dartmouth has to offer.

“It offers great investment potential too, successfully run as a holiday let and with the option of longer term letting.”
