I was saddened to learn the news in a recent issue of the passing of Mr John Marel.

He was our form teacher for three years as well as our tutor in mathematics, physics and chemistry when Dartmouth Secondary Modern School ran GCE O' Level courses in the early 1960s.

Mr Marel was a very caring teacher, who even made mathematics enjoyable and understandable.

I feel it was a privilege to have been one of his pupils.
