Colin J Moore, of Swannaton Road, Dartmouth, writes: Congratulations to Liz and Chris Mosely on their brilliant demonstration of how us Brits are so innovative, Chronicle, May 29. There are enough potholes in Dartmouth to ensure that the Britain in Bloom prize will be ours forever. In our case, Swannaton Road will greet those many vehicles of all descriptions with 'a host of golden daffodils'. With the help of Jonathan Hawkins, we have tried to get the Highways Department to carry out a proper repair to a very dangerous road surface, all to no avail. Two years ago we managed to get some response, but it was poorly carried out and lasted around six months. We have tried again to get an adequate repair carried out and have received back only a carbon copy of the letter sent to me all that time ago, with the date altered, trying to tell us that this busy road isn't used enough. Not very professional. However, long lengths of highway, for example between Norton Park and the Sportsmans Arms, appear to have been prepared for resurfacing. As a motorist I can find absolutely nothing wrong with said surface and wonder why such a waste of taxpayers' money can be contemplated when the real problems lie elsewhere. Good luck Liz and Chris – but don't hold your breath.
