CHRISTOPHER MICHAEL BLACKWELL SEAL of Beesands, writes: I am writing regarding the finance for the swimming pool at Dartmouth. In 1966 I became one of the first PE teachers to use a new swimming pool in the town of Lutterworth, Leicestershire. I am dismayed that, 50 years later, South Hams Council is considering not funding a pool in Dartmouth. Swimming is a life skill. We live in an area with a huge amount of work related to the water, which surrounds the South Hams. Short-sightedness would indeed be a retrograde step, especially when tourism makes up a large part of the income of this area. As somebody who has taught thousands to swim over many years, I would ask the council to fulfil its commitment to this project and help the future lives of our local children and adults, both health- and work-wise.
