I notice in trepidation, yet another misguided group attempting to ‘ban’ plastics.

It is chilling how these people can gain so much publicity, where no firm evidence is out ‘in the field’, and no real alternatives are put forward in replacement of plastic aids to our civilisation. Just vague, ill-defined attention seeking.

Always so it seems, by using some reason quite disconnected for the issue to be ‘banned’ – without common public consensus – they demonise the issue, leaving many of us high and dry, without alternative means, equipment or a positive alternative to make good the loss – usually backed with yet more tiresome legalisation round our necks.

In the case of banning plastic containers and bottles, it can only herald the most unwelcome return of broken glass everywhere again – a persistent safety hazard.

Before the blinkered enthusiasms of single-minded, publicity seeking ‘snake oil’ salesmen charming the uninitiated without bona fide examples in context and in support of their pursuits – it would be more responsible to ensure that what they pontificate will be of overall benefit to humanity – first – before corralling our minds with diversionary humbug.

It makes no sense to go round banning everything made which aids our way of life, when plastic wrapping, for example, would immediately threaten the rainforest campaigner’s work.

Plastic is a wonderful addition to our lives – clean and durable – yet what is at the core of its demonisation is only the idle irresponsibility of what we do with it. It is us that need ‘banning’ – plastics have no brains – time we got some.
