Damian Corbett, of Rose Cottages, Stoke Fleming, writes:
Your correspondent AG Waring appears to be rather confused in his recent letter on the the subject of evolution.
Genetic entropy is not in any way compatiable with evolution which is a theory that has been proven to be true by scientists time and time again by verifiable evidence.
Indeed, the evidence for evolution is so huge it is now regarded as an indesputable fact by biologists all over the world.
Far from being complicated, in my experience most 10-year-old children are able to understand the concept.
Further to my previous objection to the Christian comment section of the Dartmouth Chronicle, I find my self once again at odds with the contents of a recent article. Its author points out that the judge in the terrible case of Mick Philpott described the killer as having 'no moral compass'.
The article then went on to suggest that the way to ensuring good morals is to believe in Jesus Christ. I found the implication that those of us who do not believe in Jesus Christ – or indeed any other of the various imaginary friends that mankind has dreamt up over the millenia) are without morals to be utterly insulting.
The national news often has stories of Christians who appear to be morraly corrupt and commit terrible crimes – recent scandals involving Catholic priests are particularly disturbing.
I sincerely hope that the author of the Christian comment article I refer to will use the letters feature to apologise for the implication that people like myself, who base their beliefs on facts rather than ancient unverifiable parchments, are all going to end up being sociapathic killers living depraved lives such as that of Mick Philpott.
This inference is, in my view, an outrageous slur on all decent law-abiding atheists.
