KEN STEPHENS, of Bratton, Wiltshire, writes:

As a ninety year old, retired senior member of the teaching profession, I wish to draw attention to an incident I experienced during our annual holiday to Dartmouth and at the same time record my thanks to an unknown young man who has, presumably, had an excellent upbringing backed by, I hope, encouragement in social principles at school.

I refer to an incident that occurred towards the end of our holiday when I lost my credit card.

One can imagine how worrying it was for my wife and myself after I retraced my steps but failed to find it.

As a final resort I went to the bank of issue and much to my relief and delight the gentleman behind the counter said that it had been handed in earlier by a youth who described exactly where he had found it. Unfortunately, the gentleman had not asked for his name nor any contact details.

This means that the only way I have expressing my thanks is through this column.

One hears so much criticism concerning the youth of today but this unknown young man serves to reinforce my faith in the fact that there are many who are principled and our country’s future is safe in their hands.

So, whoever you are young man, ‘Thank you!’
