A Kingsbridge Community College student cycled from Thurlestone to Dartmouth and back again to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Olly Griffiths, 14, completed the 36-mile challenge in around five hours on Saturday morning. With his mum waiting at certain points along the route with water and encouragement, Olly braced five degree weather and steep hills to raise money for the cancer charity.

“People in this world get unlucky and get cancer”, Olly said, “and some people are lucky, if you’re one of the lucky ones you should give back to those who aren’t and raising money and awareness is what I could do.”

The Year 10 KCC student, from South Milton, has been collecting sponsorship money from friends at school and thinks he has raised around £180.

Olly was supposed to be doing the challenge with a friend, but the friend managed to get himself grounded just before the planned challenge (Olly kindly decided against naming and shaming his friend or telling us what he’d done to get grounded - we’re intrigued) so he completed the ride on his own.
