VANETIA HIGGINS, of Bidders Close, Stoke Fleming, writes:

I am writing in response to the letter 'Another reason to buy the paper' from William Travis, Chronicle, March 30.

I am the manager of Dartmouth Post Office and I take great exception to Mr Travis's comments and to the fact that you saw fit to publish his letter at all.

Whether I choose to buy the Chronicle or not is of no business to anyone but myself and I'm sure is of even less interest to the population of Dartmouth.

As to whether I remember the Newcomen 300 celebrations is totally irrelevant, my job is to run the post office, not co-ordinate local events.

I wish the Newcomen 300 celebrations all the very best and am grateful that Royal Mail was able to help the organisers secure the commemorative stamps they wanted.

Einstein once said: 'Condemnation without investigation is the highest form of ignorance.'

I don't believe you to be ignorant, Mr Travis, but your letter was a cheap shot at my expense.

Shame on you.
