MR and MRS G OSBORN, of Blackawton, write:
Far from being greener, the Barn Cafe at Greenway, the former home of Agatha Christie and now run by the National Trust, will be turned into a black hole.
We are to be provided with cups made from bagasse, which makes tea, coffee etc quite undrinkable, while PLA cutlery makes eating impossible.
This is to be done on the pretext that it is more environmentally friendly and saves money.
Are they not aware that these items have to be manufactured, cannot be reused and need to be transported to the premises using fuel?
Dame Agatha Christie loved to adorn Greenway with fine china. She would be turning in her grave if she knew her beautiful home, which she said was ‘the loveliest in the world’, was to be turned into a fast-food outlet, no better than the likes of Burger King.
We will certainly boycott this cafe and eat and drink across the river at establishments that are also environmentally friendly, wish to save money, but whose prime concern is the satisfaction of the customers.
