A young mum is about to be reunited with a treasured scan of her unborn son – thanks to the Chronicle and Twitter.
Gillian Bryant somehow ended up handing over the scan of unborn Dexter at 20 weeks when she brought in a number of books to sell at Lucy Hingston's Compass Books shop in Lower Street a couple of months ago.
She had not even realised the Torbay Hospital scan of Dexter in the womb was missing when Lucy found it among the books in the thriller section of her shop.
Lucy told the Chronicle in an effort to try to trace Gillian – whose name was on the scan. We were due to run the story today but in the meantime Tweeted the information to our hundreds of followers.
It was re-Tweeted by Totnes Job Centre Plus and eventually reached the University Centre at South Devon College and a friend of Gillian who let her know what had happened.
This week Gillian, who lives in Paignton with Dexter who will be three years old in January, contacted the Chronicle and is making arrangements to collect the scan from Lucy.
Gillian, who used to work in Dartmouth at the Presto Pasties shop, said: 'I didn't even know I had lost it. I know what must have happened. I sold a lot of books to the lady who owns the shop and it somehow must have been among them.
'It is so nice that someone has found it and wanted to let me know,' she said.
The scan, bearing the name Gillian A Bryant and dated September 3, 2009, was still in the cardboard jacket that the hospital hands them out in when Lucy found it.
A young mum herself, Lucy recognised the scan was taken at 20 weeks of the pregnancy because she has a similar one of her six-month-old daughter Alexandra – which she treasures.
'I found it on top of some books in the crime thriller section. It was not inside a book and the only thing I can think of is that it fell out of another book and landed there. There is no other reason why it should have been there,' said Lucy.
She added: 'Call me a sentimental fool if you will but I still carry both my scans of Alexandra around with me even though she is now six months old.
'So if Gillian Bryant is missing this picture, I would love to get it back to her.'
