A dog had a miracle escape after falling off a massive cliff - and surviving unharmed.

The pet called Bella tumbled off Shinglehill Cove near Dartmouth in Devon on Sunday.

Dartmouth Coastguard Rescue Team said she had survived the “very high” drop and appeared to be “fit and well” on the beach below.

A lifeboat was dispatched to the inaccessible cove to collect Bella and reunite her with her owner.

Dartmouth Coastguard Rescue Team’s Facebook page said: ‘’We were tasked by Falmouth Control Room to attend Shinglehill Cove where a dog had fallen over a cliff.

A dog was rescued after falling over a cliff edge in Devon on Sunday. Dartmouth Coastguard Rescue Team was called to Shinglehill Cove near Dartmouth at 11:00 BST after a dog called Bella fell over the edge of the cliff.See SWNS story SWPLcliff.
Safe: Bella the dog ( Dartmouth Coastguard Rescue Team / SWNS)

‘’We attended and met the dog’s owner above the cove. The dog had apparently run off and fallen over the cliff edge.

‘’This is a very high almost sheer cliff and miraculously the dog had not only survived, but appeared to be fit and well on the beach below.

‘’It was also lucky it was neap tides or the beach would have been covered. Luck was firmly on Bella’s side today.

‘’There is no access to this cove without a boat or climbing ropes. It was decided that the safest way to recover the dog was by sea.

‘’We requested Dart RNLI Lifeboat be called out and they attended and a very happy Bella was taken aboard the lifeboat.

‘’She was taken back to the lifeboat station where she was reunited with her grateful owner.

‘’This was the second time this year we have been called to a dog over a cliff in our local area.

‘’There was a happy outcome but it could have been very different.

‘’Please, please, please keep your dog on a lead on the coast paths especially near cliffs or high ground.’’
