Brave mum Lou Luck is having her head shaved to support a fund raising effort for the hospice which cared for her sister-in-law's husband.
Lou will be left completely bald following the head shave which will be going ahead at the Deer Park holiday complex at Stoke Fleming on Sunday.
The money she raises will go towards her sister-in-law Diane's bid to walk the Machu Picchu trail in South America to raise vitally needed cash for the St Luke's Hospice in Plymouth.
The hospice looked after Diane's husband Mark Watson who died of cancer in may 2011.
The couple lived in Kingsbridge and Mark, a civilian worker with the police in Plymouth, was just 43-year-old.
Mother-of-three Lou, aged 44, who works at Kingsbridge Community College as a catering assistant, said: 'St Luke's Hospice has brilliant facilities and they only way they can get funding is through fund raising and charitable work.
'I am having my head shaved as it is something I can do off my own bat and locally. I am getting a little nervous but it is for a fantastic cause which needs as much funding a s possible.'
Lou, who lives with her three children and husband Gareth at Stoke Fleming will be at the pub on the Deer Park complex at 3pm on Sunday to have her locks shaved off.
Sister-in-law Diane will be making the first cut and then friend, former hairdresser Tammy Good who works as a teaching assistant at the Kingsbridge college, will be shaving Lou's head completely.
Lou said that after the head shave she would probably be wearing a 'woolly hat' for a while.
'It'll be fine,' she said. 'Your hair grows back at the rate of a centimetre a month, I have been told. It's not forever. I am still here and that's what I keep thinking.'
You can sponsor Lou via sponsorship forms in the Market Cafe in Dartmouth and Deer Park, Stoke Fleming, on the day, via her mobile phone 07877 401774 or on the website machu picchuchallenge2014 . everydayhero.com/ uk/diane-1.
