KEVIN PYNE, of Lake Street, Dartmouth, writes:

Personally with regard to the proposed car parking changes I feel used and violated by both district and country councils.

I love this town and I grew up in it in a time when it ran its self so well that it was the envy of many a town or village.

Now we have a political system where any one seems to be able to poke their unwanted nose into our town's affairs.

Especially the ailing dinosaurs of both district and county!

Historically we are renowned for being able to get by.

As I have said before 'while so many in Devon lived an insular life in a five mile square bloc and were still marrying their cousins we were trading thousands of miles away' .

Moreover let us make no bones about this quick crude attempt at highway robbery, because while the government is advocating 'self help and local answers to local problems' Desperate Devon County wants to get its greedy little fingers in our pot and screw us for all that they can get even if it will cause total parking havoc!

Fortunately we have Sarah Wollaston understanding listening ear which is a great comfort and I hope she takes the matter up with the PM as it flies in the face of all he has advocated with regard to small people power in the twenty first century .

With the worst of it being that every time we beat them off they regroup and try again. At fabulous cost yet as ever, to we who are the community charge payers.

I am lucky as I have a garage but I also have kids who like to visit so it's very possible to see the problems that it causes others.

I also feel that somewhere there is some wearing two hats on this and feeding County information that is not the true feeling of all of us who live within the boundaries of Greater Dartmouth.

Townstal is the oldest part of the town and is in for a parking fiscal hammering as well and if we find out who they are, and should they be councillors then they should be replace by others who truly understand how we feel which is pretty much a totally unanimous leave it all alone .

And what a sneaky trick it was when those up at county and district must have known the intended rape and sacking of Dartmouth by means of a ruthless unfair car parking plan would coincide with the reggata festivities.

Many of the residents would be too busy or too hungover or out on the river using the harbour as happens every late August and they have done for tens of decades. Thereby using up half of the consultative period before any one would notice.

So I say to all these totally out of touch councillors: 'Don't talk and plan our futures in among yourselves, because you have no right, but talk to us because we might just have a different answer to the one that you are arrogant enough to try to heist on us and upon which by your complicity alone truly deserves that you never to succeed .
