Many thanks to Rolf Burnie for responding to the article on the Slapton Line, June 23, with his suggestion for a solution to the coastal erosion issues.
Mr Burnie is quite correct in saying that the shingle has been moving northwards, leaving the southern end vulnerable.
Recent analysis also shows that the cycle that many people have been used to, whereby easterlies periodically brought shingle back, has changed: the westerlies are the most prevalent and hence shingle is continuing to accumulate at the northern end of the beach.
We are keen for anybody with thoughts and ideas on possible solutions, or just wanting to discuss the problem, to come along to a workshop on Tuesday, July 25, at Stokenham Village Hall between 3pm and 7pm. Feel free to drop in and chat to us and have a look at our findings so far. Refreshments will be available.
We will follow up with an event later in the year once all the solutions have been assessed.
