DON COLLINSON, Beacon Road, Kingswear, writes:

Kevin Pyne, in his recent letter, rightly complains that some holiday home owner object to the fact local preference is for their homes to be used full-time and not as part-time binge points, with associated refuse problems.

He also correctly feels excessive second home ownership deprives many locals of accommodation.

He is right on all counts and change would be a fine thing, for on both river sides there is a dark side to second homes, some sizeable, old, quality properties.

But because of sparse second home occupation, this nightly results in many large areas of towns and villages being swathed in darkness.

However, it is fair to say that a few second home owners do integrate, contribute and get involved in local affairs.

It's just a pity that not more of them do.
