R Gozdek, of Elborough Street, Southfields, London, writes: I was born in Dartmouth and am still an avid reader of your paper, even though I now live in London. If affordable homes are built as part of the West Dart development, you are going to need people with sustainable employment buying or renting them, and from what I can see Dartmouth does not have major business concerns that employ a lot of people, so surely you need to encourage businesses to come to the area first. Judging by reports in your newspaper, the food bank was used a great deal recently, which means some people are unemployed or not getting a living wage. One other point is that, around 10 years ago, a good friend of mine with a growing family in the town moved to Exeter because, as he pointed out, there were more opportunities for jobs and for his kids. I think that says a lot.
