Anyone who has seen the excavation work on Jawbones Hill could be forgiven for asking themselves how the ­considerable cost involved in creating a few extra parking spaces could be justified, even in Dartmouth.

How long will it be, I ­wonder, before a planning application for a change of use to build on the site is submitted, and if agreed, followed by other applications for more buildings down the hill?
