Cllr Jonathan Hawkins, chairman, Kingswear Parish Council, writes:
David Southwick's letter about Lighthouse beach last week is almost entirely incorrect. It is true that letters from individuals exist which purport to recognise the privacy of the beach.
But as we are sure his solicitor will have told him letters from individuals are not legally significant as they can written by people who were not fully acquainted with the facts, as is the case here.
The county council has accepted the legality of the application by setting dates for a public inquiry when Mr Southwick can present what evidence he says he has. Lighthouse beach is part of Kingswear's heritage and has been much used by Dartmouth residents as well.
It is important that we take this opportunity to preserve that heritage for future generations.
To do so we still need contributions to the costs involved so please do not let last week's letter put you off.
