Salcombe RNLI crew member Imogen Yeoman set off on an impressive run-swim-run challenge on Sunday October 8th, in aid of the RNLI and in memory of her father.

A spokesperson for Salcombe RNLI said: “When many of us were relaxing in the sunshine, crew member Immy took on an impressive challenge in support of Salcombe RNLI.

“With support from family, friends and crew, she ran from Jim Martin’s lifeboat monument in Kingsbridge to Bowcombe Bridge, swam 6.5 km to South Sands, to finish at Jim’s Salcombe lifeboat monument.

“With two Ironman races under her belt, she tackled the first 2 km section of her run in 9 minutes 20 seconds, the staggering 6.5 km swim in 2 hours 15 minutes and the final 2.5 km run in 16 minutes 22 seconds.

“Looking more like she’d just taken a gentle afternoon dip, Immy emerged from the water at South Sands greeted by cheers and applause, concluding her challenge by running through Salcombe’s busy streets.”

So far Imogen has raised over £3,500 for Salcombe RNLI, and donations are still coming in.

She said: “I just really want to say thank you to everyone who was involved - way more people than I expected were out on the water and I couldn’t have done it without them. Sunday would not have happened without the amazing support I received from family and friends and, of course, the RNLI!

“My three sons were with me for the entirety of the swim - my youngest, Henry in a support boat, my middle son George helming the RNLI inshore lifeboat which was on exercise and my eldest Marcus on a paddle board right by my side the whole way.... It was an outstanding day in honour of my late father.”
