Some weeks I am proud to be a Dartmothian.  This is one such week. This week we can turn aside from the comedy show of the dysfunctional town council and concentrate on the new wonders in the Royal Avenue Gardens. Both the new fountain and the Newcomen plaza are truly magnificent. The Old Dartmothians responsible for the fountain show that their talents for selection, financing and installation are as sharp as ever.

For the plaza and surrounds the South Hams Council design and implementation is of the highest standard.

Having got rid of 'the tree', the light streams in and we now see a bright and welcoming building housing the engine.

How different from before, when it's appearance was that of a near derelict out-house.

Inside too, there is light. The white walls increase the level of natural illumination. White is not only the right choice of colour but also the right choice of designer – Angela White, who was responsible for much lauded upgrade of the museum.  Very well done all round!

Yes, this week we can be proud to be of Dartmouth's much-lauded upgrade of the museum. Very well done all round. Yes, this week we can be proud to be of Dartmouth.
