In the Dartmouth Chronicle, June 30, you reported on a hearing which criticised my behaviour as a parish councillor in Kingswear.

I will avoid the temptation to write a thesis in reply, you will be glad to hear, but would like to make three simple points for your consideration:

* Hundreds, possibly thousands of pounds of public money have been spent proving, essentially, that I allowed an item to be brought up in a council meeting at item three instead of item nine. Is this good use of public money? I rather think not.

* We live in a world where, if you say something often enough, it seems to be regarded as true. I am obviously some sort of beached fossil who still lives in a world where when a person tells you something you believe them, unless you have good evidence not to. I have been the victim of insinuations which cannot be proved because they are not true, I have told the truth and not been believed. This is hurtful.

* The people bringing the case against me in September 2015 had only one contribution to village life at that stage, namely that they had vehemently opposed the creation of a children’s playground. This playground was supported by a vast majority of residents and has now been built.

I, on the other hand, have been a parish councillor for over six years, have written pieces on village news for some years and am just compiling another.

I have directed a successful village pantomime written by our own David Murphy, I have been the chairman of the Kingswear Historians for many years, I have been much involved in the Kingswear regattas and more recently the Kingswear family fun day.

And so on...

So, I can only ask you to consider who has credibility here?

From the response to your article in the village, it seems that I have a great deal of support from people who actually know me. Let’s leave it at that.

Cllr Mike Trevorrow
