DARTMOUTH’S Mayflower 400 celebrations are nearing.
The town is being brought to life with guided tours pointing out Dartmouth’s famous buildings and sights, including Bayard’s Cove where the Mayflower sought shelter on her voyage to the New World in 1620.
Museum volunteer John Putt dressed as a Pilgrim Father to lead a group of Torbay Ramblers on an hour-long tour on Wednesday morning. Along the way he told quirky stories and anecdotes to paint a picture of what life was like in ‘Olde Dartmouth’.
Town Crier Lez Ellis met the group at the Tourist Information Centre and sent them on their way with a proclamation.
The tour ended at the museum which is gearing up, along with the Mayflower 400 committee, to mark the international commemoration in 2020.
