JIM UPHILL, of Burlington Road, Swanage, Dorset, writes:

I was interested to read the recent letters from Tony Fyson and Jo Evans regarding the need to expand Dartmouth Museum and, in particular, the reference to the Henley Collection.

My mother, Dorothy Uphill was the curator of the Henley Museum at its original premises in Anzac Street for over 20 years.

I have often wondered what the council did with the proceeds of sale of that property and other funds of the Henley Museum, including a donation from Ida Walker, a friend of the Henley's and curator of the museum. What happened after the disposal of much of that collection?

I agree with Mr Fyson that what survived of it ought to be properly displayed.

William Henley was a very clever man who deserves recognition in his home town.
