F Joules, of Above Town, Dartmouth, writes: Our ever-popular harbourmaster captain Giles is currently on a junket to Miami trying to drum up some cruise ship visits for us. In the event of success we should applaud him, as each passenger coming ashore puts between £80 and £100 into the town's coffers. However, in the event of failure, may we expect him to do the honourable thing and resign to seek pastures new? His tenure in the office of harbourmaster cannot be said to have been a resounding success: he is the most unpopular holder of the post for the past 60 years and has presided over a steady River Dart decline.
