Dr Richard Rawlins, of Beacon Road, Kingswear, writes:
District councillor Jonathan Hawkins has said that proposals for South Hams Council to relinquish control of its assets of Coronation Park, Royal Avenue Gardens and the public toilets, in favour of Dartmouth Town Council, ‘would be good for the future of Dartmouth’, Chronicle. January 13.
But would they be good for the residents of Kingswear, whom he also represents as a parish councillor? He needs to make his position clear.
Town councillor Richard Rendle has admitted that the proposals are ‘far too dangerous for us [Dartmouth Town Council] to do with the skills we have’.
Residents of Kingswear also have an interest in who runs the facilities South Hams Council currently makes available, and Kingswear Parish Council should be associated closely with negotiations. Not least because precedents may be set that could affect control of other assets, such as the vital Lower Ferry.
