Dartmouth Food Bank has said a big thank you for all the donations over the festive period and wants to remind the community it is always on the search for more volunteers.
Starting its busiest time of the year, the food bank is very well set-up to help those who need it due to the wealth of donations at Christmas.
The donations came from individuals who dropped off supplies to the food bank’s premises at Ivy Lane and from the regular collection points at The Guildhall, St Saviours Church and the Yorkshire Building Society.
Dartmouth Food Bank has also said thank you to the donations from local businesses such as Rib Eye, Cafe Alf Resco and the Dart Marina Hotel.
These kind and timely donations will help support members of the community who need help from the food bank.
During the next three months, the food bank has predicted an increase in referrals from local agencies and the number of drop ins.
Reasons for this include the move to the new Universal Credit system, loss of employment, reduction of paid working hours and illness and family breakdown which can leave families in need of short term help.
As well as providing food, the Food Bank volunteers can signpost clients to other sources of help.
Storing and managing the food is a big job and Dartmouth Food Bank is always seeking volunteers.
If anyone is keen to help with this on a Wednesday morning please get in touch via [email protected].
The food bank is open from 11am to 1pm every Wednesday at the Ivy Lane Centre, Ivy Lane in Dartmouth.
